Tuesday night at Forest Park, the Rangers celebrated Senior Night with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over PAC rival North Posey in what also served as a preview of next week’s sectional matchup. The Vikings struck first, wasting no time by converting a free kick in just the 4th minute to grab an early lead. Forest Park answered back in the 11th minute when Edgardo Zelaya slipped a perfectly timed through ball into Trevor James, who calmly slotted home the equalizer on the Rangers’ first shot of the match. From there, the Rangers carried momentum, firing six more shots before halftime, though none could find the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Vikings were stymied and failed to register another shot on goal for the remainder of the half. The second half opened with both teams pushing hard for a breakthrough. North Posey tested the Rangers’ goalkeeper with three shots on target, forcing a pair of corner kicks but coming up empty. Forest Park, determined to finish their home slate with a win, created eight second-half chances and earned a corner of their own. The decisive moment came with just four minutes remaining. Sophomore Hunter Osborne let fly a high shot that was initially stopped by the Vikings’ keeper, but the rebound deflected upward and spun into the top of the net, giving the Rangers a dramatic late lead. The defense held strong in the closing minutes to secure the victory. With the win, Forest Park improves to 7-7 overall and 6-4 in PAC play. The Rangers will wrap up their regular season Thursday night when they host conference leaders Gibson Southern in what promises to be another tough test ahead of postseason play.
