FP Boys Tennis Squeaks by Pike Central with 3-2 W The Forest Park Boys Tennis team had their first away match in 6 matches. On Monday Night, the Rangers traveled to Pike Central to play the Chargers. PC with only 5 Varsity players and 1 JV player had to forfeit the 2 Doubles position. With the Rangers up 1-0 before the match started, Coach Hochgesang knew it was going to be a close battle with Pike's upperclassmen lineup. The Rangers were able to get this W because of their three upperclassmen of Alex, Eli, and Clayton. Hochgesang told his team, and his 1 Doubles team of Alex and Eli specifically, to get the first W so that we could focus on one of the singles matches to win. That is exactly what happened. Alex and Eli were able to easily get the W playing against two Freshmen. The Rangers were up 2-0 in the match and were looking for one more position to win. Clayton Roesner, at 3 Singles, was able to be that guy to step up and get the W for the team. Clayton, needing a full third set, was able to win the third set easily 6-1 and take all the pressure off the rest of the team. Clayton realizing he just needed to keep the ball in play, did a good job of that. Before Clayton was able to secure the win, FP's 1 Singles Miles Rea came off the court with a respectable loss to a Junior. Miles, upset with himself after the match, played against a heavy forehand righty that had great angles. Miles kept both sets close until the end and battled very well. Coach Hochgesang has seen a lot of 1 Singles-type strokes from Miles over the last few matches, and is very pleased with his play even if he is losing to more experienced upperclassmen. Jace Brockman, at 2 Singles, was the last man standing for the Rangers. After winning the first set 6-3, Jace's confidence in his strokes went down. Playing a Senior, Brockman struggled to hit his normal confident forehand and second serve. Pike Central's Senior was able to battle the next two sets out, and Jace lost in a tough ending. Jace played a third set as well and started the set down 0-5. After some encouragement from his teammates, Jace was able to battle back and win 6 straight games to make it 6-5. The Chargers 2S Belmore was able to win his serve and force a 7-point tiebreaker for the set. Brockman was unable to win the tiebreaker, but Coach was pleased with his battle back in the third set. The Rangers are now 8-3 on the season and 7-2 in PAC play. For JV, Colton Osborn was able to get a W winning 8-3 in his Singles match. Coach made sure to tell Colton that he expected big things from him in this JV match, and Osborn was able to deliver the W. Scores vs Pike Central: 1 Singles : Miles Rea lost to T.
