BIG 3-2 WIN for the FP Boys Tennis Team vs Southridge The Forest Park Boys Tennis Team was coming into this PAC match vs Southridge on a 4 match win streak, and the Rangers wanted to make it 5! And that they did! The Rangers came up with a big win vs county rival Southridge. Coach Hochgesang figured this match would go 3-2 one way or the other, and was very happy with it going FP's way. The start of this match did not look good for the Rangers, but with some encouragement, game plan adjustments, and never giving up, FP was able to pull this victory out. At 1 Singles, Miles Rea was tasked with playing a very experienced Senior in Fuhs. Rea struggled to get going in the first set, but was able to get 3 games on the Southridge Senior in the second set. Coach and Miles both knew that Rea did not play his best tennis, but couldn't fault his efforts in the second set. Jace Betz, at 3 Singles, was moved to a different position yet again for the Ranger lineup. Betz struggled with Wilz's ball movement and consistency. Betz apologized for not playing his best tennis, and that was all Coach wanted to hear was his positive attitude of trying to get better after a not-so-good performance! The Rangers were able to squeeze victories out of the 2 Singles position, 1 Doubles position, and the 2 Doubles position. The 2 Doubles position was held by Drew Fischer and Clayton Roesner for tonight's matchup, and the boys were able to get the job done. Coach Hochgesang explained that it wasn't a pretty win, but at 2 Doubles, a win is a win no matter how you get it. The FP 2 Singles position was again Jace Brockman. Jace found himself down 1-4 in the first set, and was able to adjust and find the Southridge Junior's weakness. Jace then won 5 games in a row to win the first set. Brockman then found himself down 2-4 in the second set and was able to do the exact same thing, and win 4 straight games to win the match. Coach Hochgesang was very proud of Jace's persistence and determination to fight back when he was down. As a Freshman, it is incredible to see the maturity to fight back and not give up when you are down to an experienced Junior. The Rangers and Raiders were tied 2-2 in the match score and it all came down to both teams' upperclassmen. Alex Fischer and Eli Brockman played a great first set vs the Raiders, but found themselves struggling in the second set. The 1 Doubles position went into a full third set, and the Rangers were relying on their returning players from last year to get the win for the team. Eli and Alex were able to start and finish the third set controllably by holding their serves and breaking the Raider's serve a couple times. The Rangers were able to sneak past the visiting Raiders and get a big win on the season. This improves the Ranger's record to 7-2 and 6-1 in the PAC.
