The Forest Park Rangers are sectional champions once again! For the second consecutive year, the Rangers captured the sectional championship, taking down the Evansville Christian School Eagles by a score of 3-0 on Saturday at Best Home Furnishing Field. With the victory, Forest Park continues its postseason run and advances to the regional competition. The Eagles came out of the gates aggressively, applying pressure and controlling possession during the opening minutes. However, the Rangers settled into the game and began finding their rhythm. Their patience paid off in the 12th minute when junior Hunter Osborne delivered a corner kick into the box, finding senior Luke Meunier, who rose to meet the ball and powered a header into the back of the net to give Forest Park the early 1-0 advantage. Just four minutes later, Meunier struck again. This time, the senior unleashed a beautiful left-footed shot from outside the penalty area, beating the Eagles' goalkeeper and doubling the Rangers' lead to 2-0. The quick pair of goals gave Forest Park momentum and put Evansville Christian in an early hole. As the first half progressed, the Eagles regained some of their early possession and looked to claw their way back into the contest. Evansville Christian worked to create opportunities, but the Rangers' defense stood firm. Goalkeeper Dexter Meyer and the Forest Park back line turned away the Eagles' attempts, preserving the two-goal advantage heading into halftime. Coming out of the break, the Rangers knew another goal would provide some much-needed breathing room. They wasted little time delivering it. Just over three minutes into the second half, senior Gabe Schemenauer sent a corner kick into the box, where junior Trevor James rose at the back post and headed the ball home. The goal extended Forest Park's lead to 3-0 and put the Rangers firmly in control of the championship match. With a comfortable lead, both teams continued to battle throughout the remainder of the contest, trading possession and creating opportunities. Neither side was able to find the back of the net again, and the final whistle confirmed another sectional championship for the Rangers. The 3-0 victory marks Forest Park's second consecutive sectional title, a testament to the team's hard work and determination throughout the season. With the championship secured, the Rangers now turn their attention to the regional round as they look to keep their postseason momentum rolling. Forest Park will return to Best Home Furnishing Field in the middle of next week for regional competition. Their opponent has yet to be determined, but the Rangers will be looking to earn another victory and secure a spot in the regional final. Back-to-back sectional champions — and the Rangers aren't done yet!
