The Forest Park Rangers boys soccer team started its postseason run with a 4-1 victory over the Evansville Day School Eagles in the sectional semifinal. The Rangers came out firing from the opening whistle, applying early pressure and controlling possession on their way to a convincing win. Forest Park nearly found the back of the net within the first minute, striking the crossbar on an early opportunity. The Rangers continued to dictate the pace of play, moving the ball well and searching for the opening goal. The breakthrough came just 12 minutes into the contest when Hunter Osborne delivered a long throw-in that found the foot of Lucas Dooley. Dooley settled the ball and quickly fired a shot past the Eagles' goalkeeper to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Forest Park wasted little time adding to its advantage. Just seven minutes later, Gabe Schemenaur found the back of the net to double the Rangers' lead and put the Eagles under additional pressure. The Rangers carried their 2-0 advantage into the halftime break after a strong opening 40 minutes. Forest Park finished the first half with eight shots on target, consistently testing the Evansville Day School defense. Goalkeeper Dexter Meyer was also called upon to make two saves to help preserve the Rangers' clean sheet heading into halftime. The Rangers brought the same intensity into the second half, continuing to push forward in search of additional goals. Forest Park created plenty of opportunities, but the Eagles' defense and goalkeeper stood strong to keep the game within reach. However, the Rangers eventually broke through again 17 minutes into the second half. Osborne connected with Dooley on another long throw-in, and Dooley rose to head the ball into the net for his second goal of the evening, extending Forest Park's lead to 3-0. With 14 minutes remaining, Osborne added another goal of his own. The Rangers' attacker dribbled past his defender and into the penalty area before calmly slotting the ball home for Forest Park's fourth goal of the game. The Eagles managed to find the back of the net in the final minutes, but the Rangers' advantage proved insurmountable. Forest Park secured the 4-1 victory, punching its ticket to the sectional championship game. The Rangers will return to action Saturday night to face Evansville Christian in the sectional final at Best Home Field Stadium. Kickoff is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. EST, though the time remains subject to change due to weather conditions. With a sectional championship on the line, Forest Park will look to carry the momentum from its semifinal performance into Saturday night's matchup as the Rangers continue their pursuit of a postseason title.
