The Forest Park Boys Tennis team traveled to Jasper High School to play Southridge in the Sectional Opening Match. The Rangers beat the Raiders 4-1 in the regular season and looked to copy that result. The Rangers were able to do that and will advance to the Sectional Championship on Thursday evening vs Jasper at 5pm. FP knew this match was going to be a dog-fight and that Southridge was going to adjust and changed the way they played. The Rangers were ready for that though. FP was able to get another 4-1 victory with 4 different matches going into a full 3rd set!! Coach Hochgesang and the Ranger fans were definitely nervous with how it all may turn out. FP 1 Singles Sophomore, Jace Brockman, played against Southridge's Senior in Aiden Wibbeler. Aiden was able to change his approach and play style in this match. This frustrated Jace, but he was able to grind and get it to a 3rd set. Brockman couldn't get the job done, but Coach knew this was a learning match and a difficult play style to play against. FP 2 Singles Sophomore, Miles Rea, played against Southridge's Freshman Wyatt Willis. Willis was a quick athlete that was able to get to every ball and put it back in play. Miles finally got back to playing "Miles Rea tennis" and was able to move the ball and place the ball very well. Rea and Willis battled in the first set, but Miles was able to settle in and play his way in the second set. Coach was so glad to see Miles with a smile on his face after this match. FP 3 Singles Freshman, Trey Benton, played against Southridge's Sophomore Brayden Wilz. Wilz was able to get the victory over Benton during the regular season, but Trey was looking to get his revenge. Trey did not start the match very well, but adjusted his game and played well in the second and third set. Benton kept his head and never gave up; he was even down 1-4 in the third set and came back and won 5 straight games. Coach Hochgesang was very proud to see the fight in Trey in this Sectional match. FP 1 Doubles Seniors, Eli Brockman and Clayton Roesner, played against Southridge's Senior and Sophomore, Jackson Buse and Clayton Sickbert. Brockman and Roesner were able to squeeze out a W in the first battle that these two teams had but they had to do it in a third set. The Rangers did the same thing in this match. Eli and Clayton played a great first set, but quickly got too comfortable in the second and that is when Southridge won the second set. After a conversation that put the Rangers back in their places, Eli and Clayton played a great third set that got them the win. FP 2 Doubles Sophomores, Jace Betz and Drew Fischer, played against Southridge's Sophomore and Freshman, Jack Keusch and Henry Heile. Mimicking the 1D pair, Jace and Drew played a great 1st set, a not-so-great second set, and a great third set. The 2D Rangers were up 5-4 in the second set but let the set slip away. After another good talk with the coaches, Fischer and Betz were able to play like they should have and get the W with ease in the third set. Scores vs Southridge: 1 Singles : Jace Brockman lost to A. Wibbeler 5-7, 6-3, 1-6 2 Singles : Miles Rea beat W. Willis 7-5, 6-2 3 Singles : Trey Benton beat B. Wilz 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 1 Doubles : Eli Brockman and Clayton Roesner beat J. Buse and C.
