After a week away from game action, the Forest Park Rangers returned to the pitch Tuesday night with their sights set on building momentum heading into the postseason. The Rangers did just that, controlling much of the possession and earning a 3-0 road victory over the North Posey Vikings. Forest Park came out of the gates with plenty of energy, applying early pressure and keeping the Vikings on their heels. That pressure paid off in the ninth minute when senior Luke Meunier found the back of the net with a half-volley from just outside the box, giving the Rangers an early 1-0 advantage. Just over a minute later, Forest Park doubled its lead. Junior Lucas Dooley found Gabe Schemenauer, who calmly slotted home a first-time shot from just outside the box to make it 2-0. With the two-goal advantage, the Rangers continued to look to control possession and dictate the pace of play. As the first half progressed, the game developed into more of a back-and-forth battle in transition, with both teams working to gain control of the ball and create scoring opportunities. Forest Park carried its 2-0 lead into halftime. The Rangers recorded six shots in the opening half, while goalkeeper Dexter Meyer was called upon to make just one save. The second half began much like the opening minutes of the game, with the Rangers establishing possession and creating chances through strong link-up play. Forest Park continued to generate opportunities and put pressure on the North Posey defense, but the Vikings managed to keep the Rangers from adding to their lead for much of the half. The Rangers finally broke through with just two minutes remaining when junior Hunter Osborne put the game away with a solo effort, giving Forest Park a commanding 3-0 lead. Forest Park finished the second half with 15 shots, forcing the North Posey goalkeeper to make seven saves. Meyer finished the night with four saves to preserve the Rangers' clean sheet. This marks Meyer's 7th clean sheet of the season. The final whistle sounded with Forest Park earning a 3-0 victory and improving to 10-5 overall and 7-3 in PAC play. The Rangers will now turn their attention to their regular-season finale Thursday night when they travel to Gibson Southern to take on the Titans. With the postseason approaching, Forest Park will look to carry Tuesday night's momentum into the final game before sectional play.
