Boonville opened up the Junior High girls soccer match strong on Saturday at Cedar Crest Intermediate pressuring the Forest Park defensive unit, but a quick counter-attack allowed Madelyn Berg (8th) to break away and put the Rangers on the board. Annabelle Giesler (8th) was tasked with protecting the net for the Rangers for 70 minutes, and she managed to smother several Pioneer chances. However, Boonville found the net over Giesler to tie up the score just halftime. The second half started almost identical to the first as Berg raced ahead of the Pioneer defense to put her shot past the lonely goalkeeper in the early minutes. Forest Park's defense consisting mainly of Brooklyn Dooley (8th), Emma King (8th), Avery Jahn (7th), Claire Sickbert (7th) and Jaci Verkamp (7th) starved the Pioneer attack for much of the match, while it also got help from Violet Schnell (6th) and Ryleigh Thomas (6th) during the match. But the Pioneers again found the equalizer. Berg left the match after a tough play in the box forced her out with a sore back. But, putting the team on her shoulders, she returned to finish the job. Avenging the play that knocked her out, Berg out-muscled the Boonville defender this time to place her shot over the Pioneer goalkeeper, finding the far netting to record her hat-trick. (Addition: Claire Sickbert (7th) provided the assist for the game-winning goal with a long, quick-restart pass from inside the defensive half ahead to Berg) Boonville threw everything at Giesler and the Forest Park defense in the waning minutes but to no avail as the Rangers denied all access to the net. Forest Park improves to 7-1-2 and will wrap up the regular season on Thursday at Jasper.
