Lady Rangers Strike Early, but Lose Heartbreaker to Pioneers

Tuesday, Cedar Crest Intermediate School, was host to a top-10 matchup when the #8 ranked Lady Rangers welcomed the #5 ranked Lady Pioneers of Providence. The home side struck first in the 11' when senior Brynn Vaught played a set-piece from her own defensive third, which was collected by sophomore speedster Ellie Meunier for a top shelf finish. Minutes later, however, the Lady Pioneers responded with a goal of their own. The Lady Rangers also responded quickly in the 17' when an Avari Boeglin corner deflected off of a Lady Pioneer into the back of the net. They also added a penalty kick in the 25' from the foot of senior Sydney Berger and another in the 27' courtesy of a Margrethe Langelund-Arnstrup assist to senior Paige Memmer. The home side, unfortunately gave up another in the waning minutes of the first half, and the Lady Rangers would take a 4-2 lead into the half. The Lady Pioneers came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and were able to get three goals, and the game winner which came with 3 minutes remaining. Despite asking questions of the visiting goalkeeper late, the Lady Rangers were unable to secure another goal. The Junior Varsity was able to secure a 2-0 victory courtesy of a brace by freshman Abbie Rickelman.
