The Forest Park Rangers continued their strong start to the 2026 season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Tell City Marksmen 3-1 at home. The Rangers entered the matchup ranked No. 12 in Class 1A with a 1-0 record, while Tell City came in ranked No. 16 and also sporting a 1-0 record. From the opening whistle, both teams battled for control of the match. Tell City held a slight advantage in possession early, as both sides looked for an opening against two defenses that were determined to keep the opposing attack in check. The Rangers finally broke through in the 10th minute. Junior Trevor James delivered a ball across the box to fellow junior Lucas Dooley at the back post, and Dooley finished the opportunity to give Forest Park a 1-0 lead. Forest Park continued to apply pressure following the opening goal but was unable to add to the lead for much of the first half. That changed late in the opening period. With just four minutes remaining before halftime, junior Hunter Osborne found Dooley, who calmly finished for his second goal of the afternoon and extended the Rangers' advantage to 2-0. Forest Park wasn't finished. Just two minutes later, Osborne stepped up from long range and found the back of the net on a free kick, giving the Rangers a commanding 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Forest Park recorded seven shots in the opening half, while goalkeeper Dexter Meyer made one save to preserve the shutout. Tell City came out of halftime with renewed pressure, looking to quickly get back into the match. The Marksmen tested Meyer several times, and in the 14th minute of the second half, Tell City was awarded a penalty kick with an opportunity to cut into the Rangers' lead. Meyer came up with one of the biggest plays of the afternoon, making a massive diving save on the penalty kick to keep Forest Park ahead 3-0. The save proved crucial as the second half turned into a back-and-forth battle. Both teams generated chances and traded attacks throughout the remainder of the match. The Rangers added nine shots in the second half but were unable to find the net again. Tell City registered seven additional shots as the Marksmen continued to fight until the final whistle. Tell City finally broke through with just 25 seconds remaining in the match, scoring its lone goal of the afternoon to make it 3-1. The Rangers, however, held on to secure the victory and remain unbeaten. With the win, Forest Park improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Rangers continue their climb through the early portion of the season. The Rangers will return to action Tuesday, August 25, when they travel to take on Heritage Hills. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
