Congratulations to Caleb Sickbert who advanced to the Track and Field State Finals next week with his performance in the Discus last night. In a field of 16, he advanced to the finals from the flights in third place with a throw of 151-8, bettering his mark of 144-0 from sectionals and throwing over 150 for the third time this season. Ultimately, this throw of 151-8 was good enough to keep him in third place overall on the night after three additional throws and advance him to the State Finals. After securing his spot in the State Finals, Caleb went on to compete in the Shot Put. In a field of 16 and down to his final throw of three, he advanced to the finals from the flights in a tie for fourth place with a season best throw of 50-3, obliterating his previous season best of 47-2.25 from sectionals. He was not done. With his three additional throws, Sickbert would throw 48-2, 48-8, and 50-4.50, completing an evening where his final 4 throws were his 4 best throws of the year. Ultimately, this final throw of 50-4.50 fell a few inches short of punching Caleb’s ticket to state in the double, but it was enough to move Caleb from an already impressive 5th place into 4th place finish on the night, moving half an inch past a throw of 50-4. On a night where Caleb Sickbert was the lone representative for the Rangers at Regionals, we are as proud of the way he competed as we are with his results. Ultimately, he carried the team to a 22nd place finish out of 40 teams represented at the Regional. In two fields where Caleb more than held his own, it can be easy to forget that he is only a freshman. For the evening, he was the only freshman to compete in either the shot put or the discus. Moreover, he was the only underclassman to place in the top 5 in either the shot put or the discus. Congratulations Caleb! We are so proud of all that you have accomplished, and we cannot wait to see what you do at the State Finals next week!
