7th Grade Boys Basketball loses Nail-biter in Double OT vs Boonville The 7th Grade Boys Basketball team had their second game of the week with this game being at home vs Boonville. With the Rangers picking Boonville up on their schedule for the first time, FP didn't know what to expect from them. After a win vs Tell City, the 7th Grade Boys had some confidence. Forest Park was without their starting Point Guard in Luke Ebert with a foot/ankle injury. The first quarter started pretty slow for both sides. The Rangers had to play against Boonville's different types of defenses: 1-2-2, 1-3-1, full court trap, and man-to-man defense. The Rangers were way off on their outside shots in the first half with every single shot being very long. Coach Hochgesang said to lay off on the weights and adjust their shots. The first half ended with the Rangers in a hole 15-19, due to the lack of outside shots going in. Boonville was led by their Point Guard Gonzman, who was a good player. Zander Reyling-Schwartz was tasked with trying to slow him down. The Rangers battled in the second half and chipped at the lead to make it 25-27. Going into the fourth quarter, the Rangers were having a tough time guarding the 3-point line, with Boonville finishing with 8 total threes for the game. This game came down to the wire with the Rangers having a chance to win the game. Coach Hochgesang called multiple timeouts with seconds left on the clock and drew up a play. Michael Christmas had a good drive at the end of the game with a chance to win it, but was knocked off his tracks going into the lane. The buzzer sounded and the Rangers were going into their first OT of the season. The first OT played out just like the 4th quarter with a very tight game. The Rangers tied the game up towards the end of the first OT and were tasked at getting a stop to force another OT. FP got a stop on the defensive end and Christmas chucked a full court shot, but it was off. The Rangers were going into their second OT. The 7th Grade Boys Basketball team played a good game and had opportunities to put the game away, but the shots didn't fall and Boonville was able to come out with the win. Boonville won 50-46. The Rangers ended the game with 13 turnovers and shot 4/12 from the free throw line. Cason Lubbehusen was able to bring a big spark in the second half to keep the Rangers in it; he ended the game with 11 points. The Rangers had 5 guys score 7 points or more, but free throws and turnovers was what killed the Rangers chances. Scoring vs Boonville: Cash Lueken : 12 points (two 3-pointers) Cason Lubbehusen : 11 points (two 3-pointers, 1/1 FTs) Blake Morrison : 9 points (1/2 FTs) Michael Christmas : 7 points Hunter Lange : 7 points (1/1 FTs) The Rangers look to get back to a .500 record when they play at Perry Central on Saturday morning. Wish the boys good luck!
